What is electrical discharge machining?
In todays’ industry, EDM has become more and more popular in shaping harder material, like titanium and so on. Besides, it also offers a higher accuracy and precision of the precision part. So exactly is electrical discharge machining?
Electrical discharge machining or EDM is a precision metal fabrication process that uses thermal energy to remove excess material from the workpiece, which is a conductive material. It is a non-traditional method of removing excess material, where in contrast, traditional method uses mechanical force to remove excess material.
During the process, the material is being removed by a series of recurring rapid current discharge between two electrodes, one is the material, the other one is the tool. These two electrodes cannot touch each other and is being separated by putting metal into dielectric fluid.
There are many types of electrical discharge machining, such as wire EDM, die EDM, hole EDM and so on.
